Tips Off the Tee

The driver is the most important club in the bag and typically the hardest to hit. Due to the length of the club and low loft of a driver face, it is in fact the hardest club to hit consistently. Remember though golfers, there is always another option when stepping up to the tee, and your number one alternative is the 3 wood. For players with higher spin (slices or draws) it will definitely help with keeping your shots on target. Especially if you can already hit the ball pretty hard (100mph clubhead speed +) there really is no need to hit driver on your average par 4.

If you do plan on playing the driver every chance you get then my number one tip to hit would be to trust your swing. Start by going to the range prior to your round, hit between 10-15 drivers to feel out how your hitting the ball that day and play around that. For instance, if your hitting a slight cut with the driver, align yourself to compensate for that. Don’t think about mechnanics, setup and all that during the round, just trust your muscle memory and make a smooth swing.
